Railway Courier Service

Railway Courier ServiceIn Kerala Police, a Railway Courier Service started functioning from 1984 onwards, with a view to collect and distribute mails (Tapals/Daks) from Police Headquarters to various Districts and from the Districts to the concerned places and Police Headquarters. A Railway Police Constable detailed for the Courier Service Duty collects the Dak from Police Headquarters every day evening and travels in the evening train from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod (south to north) passing through all the districts. He hands over all the Dak to the Policemen who are waiting at the Railway Stations of each District and collects the Dak from them, for other destinations from South to North. Similarly, another Railway Police Constable starts simultaneously from Kasaragod by the evening train, and moves from North to South, similarly collecting/delivering Dak en route. Courier Rooms are functioning at all the Railway Stations in the State, under the GRP, where the Daks are sorted and bundled. This system has been found to be a great success and Dak can be distributed to all the Units and destinations and vice versa, timely, promptly and effectively at a very low cost, since the Railway Police Constables travel on Duty passes.
