Police Station Security System

PS SecurityThe Armed Sentry System in front of a Police Station with a Rifle, which has been continuing since the British Raj, was found to be outdated considering the present day situations. As part of an exercise to create a more humane and people friendly ambience in the Police Stations, the existing sentry with rifle was replaced by a Station Security Officer carrying a Pistol/Revolver. This was implemented in 56 Police Stations from November 2006 on an experimental basis. As the system was found to be a success, it was further implemented in 56 more Police Stations from 01/07/2007. At present, this system is successfully continuing in 112 Police Stations in Kerala. This was implemented as part of the Modernization in Government Programme (MGP) in the Police Force, a Programme supported by the Asian Development Bank. Within a year, it is proposed to extend this system to all the Police Stations in Kerala, excepting a few Police Stations which are classified as ‘very vilnerable’ to Extremist attacks.
