State Police Headquarters is located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram City. It is operating from a Heritage Building located near Vellayambalam. In addition to the main Heritage Building from the Chief of the Force, i.e., Director General of Police sits and functions, there is another heritage building by the name Bank House where some of the Staff Officers of the Director General of Police have their offices.
The State Police Headquarters is the office of the State Police Chief. DGP is assisted by a number of Staff Officers who help him in discharge of his duties. The Staff Officers are basically in the rank of ADGP/IGP/DIG/SP and various other Subordinate staff. In addition to the Staff Officers, some Special Cells also operate from the Police Headquarters(PHQ). For eg., the NRI Cell, the Special Cell looking into matters of the SC/ST, (the Cell looking into the atrocities against SC and ST) also operate from the Police Headquarters. Recently the Hi-Tech Crime Enquiry Cell(HTCEC) and the Command Centre are also operating from Police Headquarters. Recently the Hi-Tech Crime Enquiry Cell (HTCEV) and the Command Centre are also operating from Police Headquarters. The two heritage buildings, space-wise, were insufficient. Therefore, multi-storied modern buildings known as PHQ Towers are being constructed to accommodate various offices. There is a large number of Ministerial Staff looking into various aspects and various subjects to help the Staff Officers. Most of the policy decisions are taken in the PHQ by the Director General of Police after matters are being processed by the Staff Officers concerned.
