Kerala Police 24 x 7 Scheme

Kerala Police 24 x 7 SchemeThe general Public are often not able to contact Local Police Officers (like SHOs/Circle Inspectors/SDPOs) over phone to inform the Officers about their grievances, and other information about criminal activities, since the Sub Inspectors of the Police Stations and Senior officers in the field are almost always pre-occupied with various official duties at different places, and as they cannot be present in their Offices at all times round-the-clock. In their absence, those who attend the phone calls to the Offices/Police Stations are not capable of taking prompt action on the complaints/information. Naturally, delay occurs in initiating legal action on such issues.

As a remedial measure, the Kerala Police have introduced the scheme Kerala Police 24 x 7 during 2006 vide GO (Rt) No. 278/06/Home dated 31/01/06 and No. 1039/06 Home dated 02/05/06. The Scheme aims at facilitating the general Public to contact the concerned Police Officers over phone, 24 hours in a day, and all the 7 days of the week (24 x 7) without any difficulty.

As part of this Scheme, Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Circle Inspectors, Dy. Superintendents of Police of District Special Branches, ACPs of Traffic have been provided with Mobile SIM Cards, whose numbers have been publicised. The general Public can contact these numbers at the time of need and request for Police assistance. Plans to extend this Scheme to all the Station House Offices (SHOs) in the State (total 430 Police Stations) is under consideration of the Government and is likely to be approved shortly.
