Dog Squad

Dog Squad

Dogs are not only the best friends of common people but they also do excellent professional work and help the Police. There are two types of dogs employed by Police; i.e. ‘Tracker’ Dogs which track criminals  and ‘Sniffer’ Dogs which detects Explosives, Narcotics etc. Kerala Police, like other Police Forces, also has an exclusive Dog Squad. Every Police District is having a Kennel having a few Dogs both ‘Tracker’ as well as ‘Sniffer’. The State Headquarters Dog Squad having more dogs is located at present in Trivandrum which is shortly going to be shifted to Kerala Police Academy, Thrissur where a modern kennel has been constructed: State Security Kennel, (now under construction) is located in Thiruvananthapuram.

In Thrissur, at KEPA, there is a modern Training Kennel which can accommodate at a time 30 dogs which can be trained in both tracking and sniffing operations. Kerala Police deploys the Dogs in the Air Ports (They are basically ‘Sniffer’ Dogs). Many Kerala Police Dog Squad personnel have been trained by the BSF and more and more number of people are being inducted into the Dog Squad and they will be also trained by the professionals both inside and outside Kerala.
